Comic Con is up to its usual tricks, giving us all kinds of cool news and trailers for upcoming geekery. This morning’s panel on The Walking Dead saw the release of a heavy-weight trailer for Season 6, weighing in at a massive four-plus minutes – which makes sense, when you realize that the season premiere will be 90-minutes long, just like last season’s finale. Click through for the trailer and some commentary on what it reveals heading into October 11th’s release date.

Game-Of-Thrones-2015-Season-5-Poster-Wallpaper

Episode: 509
Airdate: June 7, 2015
Directed by: David Nutter
Showrunners: David Benioff and D.B. Weiss
Written by: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss (creators); George R.R. Martin (“A Song of Ice and Fire” by); David Benioff & D.B. Weiss (written for television by)

Penultimate episodes of Game of T|hrones have traditionally been focused on shocking plot turns (Seasons 1 and 3), or on larger-than-life battles (Seasons 2 and 4), so what does the second-to-last episode of Season 5 hold in store? Following last week’s amazing battle (and overall fantastic episode – read my review here), showrunners Benioff and Weiss seem to have chosen to throw their creative climax at us one episode earlier than usual, and now they have two more episodes to set the table heading into the long inter-season hiatus rather than the usual one. While it’ll be hard to outdo “Hardhome,” there are still plenty of storylines left dangling – and there’s always the danger that we could see more missteps like those we’ve seen in the episodes leading up to last week’s opus (Episode 506 “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” was particularly egregious). That said, based on the pattern of previous seasons, I suspect we may be in for some sort of a shock ending to this week’s episode – I have my thoughts on this, which I’ll discuss below. For the preview video, and my speculation on what this week will bring us, click through after the break.

Two episodes to go, and a couple of real cliff-hangers left over from last week’s episode, means that we should be in for a tense and action-filled show this Sunday. In one of the clips below, there are several freshly dug graves – who’s in them? Click through for preview videos, and my ideas on what’s going to happen this week.

Episode: 509
Airdate: February 8, 2015
Directed by: Greg Nicotero
Showrunner: Scott M. Gimple
Written by: Frank Darabont (creator); Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard (series of graphic novels); Scott M. Gimple (written by)

With the shocking (if not terribly surprising) and heartbreaking end to the first half of Season 5 already over two months in the rear-view mirror, it’s just about time to pull out the zombie survival kit and get ready for the latter half of the season. Starting this coming Sunday, we’ll get to see what the group decides to do, following the climactic events at Grady Memorial Hospital. I suppose it’s only appropriate that the episode is, in fact, named “What Happened and What’s Going On.” While I’m not going to go too far with prognostications here (and frankly, a knowledge of the comics would seem to be largely irrelevant for the most part, what with all the changes already made by Gimple and co.), I will have a look at the preview videos already released, and analyze the first two minutes of Episode 509, released two days ago (February 3) by AMC. Click through for the videos, and my commentary.

This week, Dan and I return from our winter hiatus to discuss the upcoming films of 2015 that we’re interested in seeing. These run the gamut from children’s films (Paddington and Minions), to spy films (Kingsmen: The Secret Service and SPECTRE), to big action blockbusters and sequels (Jurassic World and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens). I’ll put the links to the podcast below, and if you want to take a look at the trailers for these films, as well as a complete list of all those we talk about, click through after the break where I’ve listed them based on release date.

Episode: 506
Airdate: November 16, 2014
Directed by: Seith Mann
Showrunner: Scott M. Gimple
Written by: Matthew Negrete, Corey Reed

While the first three episodes of Season 5 of The Walking Dead provided a tight, focused storyline including pretty much the entire group (save for Beth), the last two episodes have gone further afield, as they have focused on people taken or otherwise departed from the group. Right now, if we consider all of the different PoV characters out there, there are actually four separate storylines sprung from that one single, cohesive story that we began with (with, of course, the mystery around Beth in the background). And if you consider the stinger from Episode 501, there is potentially a fifth. I’m pretty sure that this week we’ll see two, possibly three of those storylines reunited, leading us into the last two episodes of the first half of the season, and the inevitable big finish that we’re all expecting. Click through for my take on where we’re heading this week.

After last week’s departure from the main group, this week we’re going to get a second episode that deals with things away from Rick and the gang. Unfortunately for pretty much all of us, it won’t give us any of the burning questions left from the last two weeks; fortunately, we get to spend time with a couple of fan-favorite characters before rejoining the main story. Season 5 has hit us with three great episodes in a row, maintaining a frenetic and tense pace that I didn’t think would be sustainable. This isn’t a case of AMC and showrunner Scott M. Gimple blowing all of their shots and leaving nothing in the tank; in fact, if the previews (not to mention Daryl’s mysterious companion at the end of last episode) are any indication, the tension is about to get ratcheted up yet again. Click through to read my preview of tonight’s episode.

This week’s episode, titled “Four Walls and a Roof,” may at first seem to hint at a new attempt at domesticity coming up for Rick and the gang; but I seem to remember hearing an old saying that goes something like: “Four walls and a roof do not a home make.” For the survivors, home is wherever they are, so long as they’re together. And with the events of last week, with three of them no longer in the fold, home is not feeling particularly safe at the moment. Click through for a look at this week’s preview trailer, as well as some of my observations on where we’re heading.

Episode: 502
Airdate: October 19, 2014
Directed by: David Boyd
Showrunner: Scott M. Gimple
Written by: Robert Kirkman

Last week’s season opener was a stunning hour (or 42 minutes, really) of thrills and non-stop action, definitely in my top 3 episodes of all time – and perhaps my favorite. If you’d like to know more about my take, check out my review here, or find a link to my new podcast with my friend and fellow viewer Dan here.

So, after such an explosive start, how do Scott Gimple and co. intend to follow up? It would be impossible, both from a special effects budget perspective and because of the potential long-term damage to the hearts of fans due to adrenaline overdose, to try to continue at the same pace established last week. The producers will likely tone things back several notches, and allow us all to take a collective breath after the exciting events at Terminus. Click through after the break for a look at the Preview video and some early pictures released by AMC this week.
