Six months have passed since the final episode of Season 6, an episode that left a bad taste in the mouths of many as they were forced to wait to see who Negan would choose. The episode ended on a first person perspective of the victim, Lucille coming down on his or her head, watching as the world faded to black. It felt, in many ways, to be an unfair ending to a season that was – to be honest – rather uneven at times. And while cliffhangers have a long and storied tradition in Hollywood, it still felt a little cheap. So with tonight’s big reveal, is all forgiven in Walking Dead Land?

After last week’s amateur hour, I was really hoping that this week, with a return to Daryl, Abraham, and Sasha, would provide us with something a little more solid. Ultimately, that’s exactly what we got: something a little more solid, but not much more than that. Click through for my snapshot review of Episode 606.

Episode: 506
Airdate: November 16, 2014
Directed by: Seith Mann
Showrunner: Scott M. Gimple
Written by: Matthew Negrete, Corey Reed

While the first three episodes of Season 5 of The Walking Dead provided a tight, focused storyline including pretty much the entire group (save for Beth), the last two episodes have gone further afield, as they have focused on people taken or otherwise departed from the group. Right now, if we consider all of the different PoV characters out there, there are actually four separate storylines sprung from that one single, cohesive story that we began with (with, of course, the mystery around Beth in the background). And if you consider the stinger from Episode 501, there is potentially a fifth. I’m pretty sure that this week we’ll see two, possibly three of those storylines reunited, leading us into the last two episodes of the first half of the season, and the inevitable big finish that we’re all expecting. Click through for my take on where we’re heading this week.

Bob was left in something of a tricky situation last week – no leaving his plight on the back-burner, as it were. Gareth and his group of remaining Termites, the self-described Hunters, will need to be confronted, lest Rick and the gang go the way of Bob’s left leg. So how are they going to get out of this one? Airdate: October 19, 2014
Directed by: David Boyd
Showrunner: Scott M. Gimple
Written by: Robert Kirkman (episode); Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, Tony Moore (graphic novels)

Last week’s season premiere was a fast paced adrenaline rush, bringing to a culmination all of the tension built up over the latter half of last season as the group, separated into smaller parts, converged on Terminus. Now, with the group back together and moving away from the cannibals, where are they going to go next? Abraham has a pretty clear idea where he thinks they should be going, but he’s not the only voice that will be heard. So what, if anything, have they decided to do?

While last season opened with something of a whimper, full of foreshadowing and suggestion, tonight’s Season 5 premiere was all about the bang. From beginning to end, it was a non-stop adrenaline rush, as the action never seemed to let up. And the episode ended with a very big reveal, and one that gives a hint as to where things will be heading. Season 4 was perhaps the most consistently solid season of The Walking Dead so far, so Season 5 has some big shoes to fill; if tonight was any indication, they’re starting off on the right foot – it should be a fun ride.
